What is a static IP?

A static IP is an IP address that is fixed, that is it never changes. If you are connected to an internet connection that is "always on", most likely you have a static IP address, although some of the "always on" connections use dynamic IP addressing to make the installation process easier. Normally connections such as a T1 have a static IP address.
